The first Jaunt Phillip actually tried to come up with a cover story on, and he did a decent enough job, claiming to be from a lost planet named Barrayar and a race named Vor, quietly praying that Byerly would never find out. Some people caught on, but Phillip stuck by the people who at least didn't question his story as much, using his Orange magic to talk to the ship and acquiring as much information as he could to pass on to the rest of the Investigators, who... would hopefully know how to deal with it better than him.
