He actually succeeded- not only did he wind up finding the source of the missing spirit animals (even though Zatanna got killed and he got captured- whoops?), he was the winner of the true Valence. He used his to grant his captors their wish- to be together for ever. Phillip’s kind of a sucker for romance.
