( CHARACTER INFORMATION )

Name/Work Name: Pharos/Phocas
Canon: Persona 3
Canon Point: Riiight after saying goodbye to Minako
AU/CRAU: Sort... of? He's from the Fem!MC route, which is sometimes counted as an AU. (The only difference in his route is that the MC is a girl and he calls her 'my dearest' after a while which is kind of creepy.)
Age: Who the fuck knows. Uh. Appears to be ten- could be as young as 6/7 months, could be as old as eternity.
History: Here!
Personality:
Pharos, for all intents and purposes, is a small, creepy child. At the beginning, he hardly remembers anything about who he is, but he has an awareness and understanding of anything included in the Dark Hour. However, since he doesn’t exist outside of the Dark Hour, he has pretty much no idea about anything not included in it, making him incredibly naive about how things operate in the world in general, but still capable of grasping and talking about larger concepts, such as fate and death. Because he’s not really human, not to mention what he actually is, Pharos has little trouble in particular discussing death, and even admits that before knowing the PC, he never considered it to be a problem. He’s very fatalistic, believing that death and the Fall are both inevitable concepts.

Despite this rather depressing (to the PC, not him) outlook, Pharos is very curious about the PC’s experiences with life and emotions, developing a clearer idea of what it meant to be human through her. He takes pretty much everything she says to him to heart, almost always consenting that she would know something more than he does, because his range of knowledge is so limited. He grew very fond of her over time, even eventually taking to calling her ‘my dearest.’ With her (because he can’t be seen by anyone else), he’s generally very friendly and willing to answer questions... provided you ask the correct ones. He winds up being kind of cryptic unless you’re very specific about what you’re asking, though he sees no actual reason to lie to someone.

Because the PC is the only one who can see him, Pharos is very lonely. This doesn't come through but so often because he cherishes his time with the PC and is always happy to talk with her, but he goes so far before he leaves as to call their friendship a 'miracle'. He truly enjoys the little time they have to converse, and treasures the memories he has with her. (In a way, this combination between his curiosity, friendliness, and loneliness explains a lot about the character he becomes in Ryoji, who goes out of his way to talk to new people and deeply values the friendships he forms.) However, even at the end when he recovers all of his memories of what's to come, he shows very little in the way of remorse, focusing on how much he cared for PC in contrast to the fact that he was going to destroy her world. This could indicate little care for anyone outside of his personal social circle (small as it is), instead mourning the loss of a friendship than a mass loss of life.
Debt: (Honestly just telling Pharos 'your fate is to work here now' would probably work just fine, though puzzle him greatly, but--)

Revival from death/the allowance to be his own person. He probably stood there for a long time being confused and asking why he wasn't summoning Nyx before they finally got him to sign anything.

Previous Game Info: N/A

Inventory: ...Nothing. Just his clothes. And sandals.

Abilities: Aside from showing up in the PC’s room in the dead of night, Pharos shows no overt powers during the course of the game. However, at the canon point I am taking him from, all the separate Shadows are now joined with him so he theoretically should be able to transform into Death.. Death’s powers are also unknown, but they are probably similar to that of Thanatos. He is also incapable of being killed by anyone but the PC, and even then it would only kill his form, not Death itself.

Strengths and Weaknesses:
Strengths:
-Unless you are a Persona 3 main character who has harbored Death inside of you for ten years, you can't kill him. It's impossible to even harm him.
-Though naive in many ways (more on that), Pharos is rather clever, albeit often cryptic. When it comes to larger scope of topics, such as death, fate, and the process of being human, he shows much more thought and wisdom than any child his apparent age should.
-Though unused to much social interaction, he is very friendly and very, very curious.

Weaknesses:
-Pharos is severely lacking in a great deal of very basic information- he doesn't know how to function as a human doing basic human actions. He can be taught, but it will be rife with questions.
-He also doesn't know literally anything about the world outside of the Dark Hour, Shadows, and whatever he managed to bother Minako about while showing up when she was half asleep.
-Because of his rather warped worldviews and his total lack of tact and other social skills, Pharos can very easily come off as creepy to people. Very easily.

( SAMPLE )

Characterization Sample:
It’s the first time that Pharos has really seen the sun. He’s only ever seen the Dark Hour, with the entire world bathed in the green glint of moonlight (which he’s not even really aware is an unusual color for the night). He was sitting on the edge of Minako’s bed, eyes towards the window and the rising sun while he waits for the girl to wake up. It’s... nice. He’s glad he got to see it.

But he feels the stir of Minako waking, and Pharos directs his attention back to the girl with the small smile he’s learned how to make. “Good morning.”

He has his memories back. He knows what will happen next, to himself, to his world. But Minako has such great potential... he doesn’t know what will become of his only friend. Pharos can’t imagine that even she would be able to survive against Nyx, and he finds himself saddened by the idea. It’s been an eventful year, but he wants it to keep going. He has told Minako that he will always cherish the memories they’ve made through these interactions, and he will, and he’s happy he had them... what is this feeling, though, the one that wishes it didn’t end here? That their friendship, as steadfast as it was, could remain uninterrupted?

Pharos doesn’t quite know how to articulate these feelings. After all, the act of feeling in itself is relatively new to him, and there is still a great deal of it that he doesn’t understand. But he tries to communicate it the best he can. Even though he can not say why, it is important to him to say goodbye. And... perhaps, even though he is going to disappear, the bond forged by their friendship will not be so easily broken. But even as he says these words, he provides no explanation, no reason for why it is that he must go. And once again, he is not sure why.

Death is a concept that Pharos is very familiar with. Even when he and Minako have talked about death, the loss of those whom Minako held dear, it did not bother him and did not do so until he found himself becoming rather attached to Minako. He does not want Minako to die. The thought... upsets him. But time leads all to the same end, and that time has come. For Pharos. For the whole world. So why should he not say so? Could it be because he believes Minako would find the knowledge painful? Especially since there truly is nothing that can be done?

He vanishes from his spot next to the bed, reappearing at the end of it and watching the still half-asleep girl. “...It was fun while it lasted,” he says, smile sad and voice wistful, “Farewell.”

Pharos closes his eyes, as he first feels himself disappear from Minako’s view... and then simply ceases to be.
